One Flesh

Chapter One

The Role of Sexuality in Our Lives

The nature and purpose of sexuality has been, and still remains, one of the great controversies of the ages. Human evaluation of sexuality has consistently vacillated from one extreme to the other. One generation's view of this enigmatic, but ubiquitous, subject is usually at odds with that of the preceding and succeeding generations. As far as human sexual consciousness is concerned, mankind has fluctuated between the most extreme estheticism and enforced celibacy to the wildest and most uncontrolled form of licentiousness and sexual perversion. The reason for this constantly fluctuating sexual perspective is quite simple: Mankind, as a whole, has never been made privy to the God-ordained true and full purposes of their sexual functions.

That is not to say that such public instruction has not been attempted in the past by those who knew the truth, but only the few accepted this truth and, even when the truth was accepted, fewer still were sufficiently motivated or determined to put these truths into practical use in their lives.

This ignorance of the real purposes of our Sexual Creative Center is of the most democratic nature. It shows no deference to power, religion, color, race or gender. Humanity reaps the result of such lack of understanding from the throne to the hovel, from the White House to the jail house, from the pulpit to the pew, from the college to the kindergarten, from the doctor to the patient, from the mother to the daughter, from the father to the son and from the most civilized of nations to the most backward. Because of this widespread miscomprehension and just plain misinformation on this most vital subject, most of mankind today is as confused by sex and sexual relationships as they were thousands of years ago.

What is now called (or at least was before AIDS) the Sexual Revolution would have been nothing new to the Greeks, Romans, Elizabethans or to the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah. It is a "revolution" only to the extent that what once was has again revolved to take its place in our lives. Round and round goes this sexual carousel, only no one (it seems) ever gets the golden ring.

It is always fascinating to see politicians grapple with this subject. Being as ignorant as their constituency, they hem and haw, take rather ludicrous stands only to quickly abandon them again if the political winds blow from a different direction. Why this indecision? Because they do not have a single clue as to the real nature of human sexuality, therefore, any stand they take is built on sand that shifts with wind and tide.

As a practicing physician who has devoted nearly fifty years to this fascinating subject, I can state unequivocally that despite (or because of) all our modern sexual "enlightenment" more sex-related problems have come into my office in recent years than ever before. It is true that the problems vary from one dispensation to another, from one swing of the sexual pendulum to another, but they do not diminish. Why? Because, as stated above, the human race, almost as a whole, is ignorant of the keys which alone can open the floodgates of full sexual creativity and constructiveness. We have done our best to give you these keys in this book. These keys come not from my own mentality, but from the eternal sources of knowledge and wisdom that have enlightened all valid moral and spiritual teachers of mankind. It is up to you to decide whether you will use these keys or not. As with all good things, dedicated effort and persistence are required for complete success. Even more than this, an entirely new concept of human worth and integrity must be achieved to help you make use of these keys to open the gates to all that is good in Creation. It is not easy to create the Biblical "new bottle," required to make full use of the instruction herein given, but the rewards for faithful application are inestimable.

The Nature of Sexual Creativity

There has been, at least among the great mass of mankind, an incomplete comprehension of the possibilities inherent in our sexual and creative natures. The more obvious properties of the sexual apparatus are understood and used by all, but beyond these very rudimentary functions, little of the underlying creative nature of this tremendously potent force is used or even understood by mankind. The sexual centers have uses and inherent powers far beyond anything that usually is ascribed to them. Nature, in her art and wisdom, is extremely frugal with the components she constructs. If she can make one part serve many functions, she invariably will do so. We see this throughout our world as well as in our own bodies. Therefore, when Mother Nature (God's handmaiden) builds a Creative Center, for such, in truth, the sexual apparatus and adnexia are, she feels it incumbent to utilize this center for far more purposes than that of merely species' reproduction. Within the Sexual Creative Center she built in you and me, she placed a great force and potential for creativity in all fields of endeavor, be it physical, mental and, yes, even spiritual. In Genesis, Chapter 1, God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." And then it continues, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply...." We are told that God is the great Creator of the earth, the heavens and all that is about us. If we are made in His image, are we not then also creators? If we are creators, do we not create from a creative potency or energy? Where else is our creative energy but in the Biblical "loins," and by loins, do the Biblical writers not mean the centers of sexual activity?

After God created the male and female likenesses, He blessed them, and among the parts He blessed was their Sexual Creative Centers. In fact, the high regard which the Overlord placed upon this part of His creation can be surmised from the first commandment He gave to his new creations:

"Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth." Pray tell, how were our illustrious ancestors to obey this fiat except by the normal and holy use of their newly formed sexual organs? To any impartial observer it should be obvious from the foregoing that God put our Sexual Creative Centers within us to be used, and to be used as fully as possible as long as it was within the guidelines He set forth.

While the foregoing argument may have some credence for those who are of a religious nature, we realize that many of our readers may no longer hold to such beliefs. This does not change the nature of their Sexual Creative Center, however. They, too, can benefit from the foregoing just as much as their more religious contemporaries. The content of this work is able to help all who are willing to understand its message and apply the principles annunciated. Just as one does not have to believe in God to use the reproductive part of the Sexual Creative Center, neither does one have to do so to utilize some of the more advanced and esoteric functions of this Center.

Despite all the effort God (Nature or even evolution, if you will) lavished upon this Sexual Creative Center, only two of its many functions are recognized by most of the people in the world. To many, these two functions even seem to be at odds with one another. This has produced a situation that created strong advocates for each of these functions to the exclusion or diminution of the other function. Over the centuries the world has divided itself into two camps; each advocating its favored sexual function and doing what it can to contradict the views and arguments of the other camp. These efforts are as active today as ever before in history. Apparently, mankind just will not learn from the past. It is, of course, the ascendancy or decline of one or the other of these two camps that accounts for the vacillation of sexual thought in the affairs of men referred to previously. Again, this vacillation will continue ad nauseam until mankind, as a whole, is able to accept the true nature of the Sexual Creative Center within one's own being. This is the royal road to human development. Without this advancement and understanding all else is sham. Almost all known human adversity can be traced back to a lack of this knowledge and the application of this understanding.

The Puritanical Camp and Original Sin

For centuries the orthodox Church taught (and some still so teach) that the only legitimate use of the Sexual Creative Center was for procreation. That such needed procreation required the "carnal" sex union was to many in the Church a great disappointment and it seems that many Church prelates would have preferred if the race could have been continued in some other less "animalistic" manner. Thus, we see the rationale for the great emphasis placed on "immaculate conception." Words that cannot help but indicate that any other form of conception is not immaculate or clean, but is somehow dirty or filthy. It takes only a little leap of faith to surmise from this that the Church (much of it), while it must accept the fact that human cohabitation is necessary, believes it is at the very best an undesirable necessary evil.

Those religious groups that do not stress the immaculate conception concept are still usually very adamant about the concept of "original sin." This, to them, was the sex act between Adam and Eve (or their equivalent in other cultures). According to these authorities, this "sin" of Adam is what forced all of us out of the Garden of Eden and has since that time compelled us to wallow in all the sins of the world as we now know it. Had Adam only been able to keep his hands off of Eve, we would all still be in the Garden of Eden.

Fortunately, these religious leaders have never had to defend this point of view in a civil court of law. Had they attempted to do so, no doubt they not only would be hard pressed to do so, but might find the experience embarrassing as well. As the opposition lawyer in such a case, I would ask such pointed questions as: "If God did not want Adam and Eve to use their reproductive abilities why was his first command to his creations, 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth'? If God did not desire that Adam and Eve copulate to replenish the earth why did He make them male and female? Why not Adam and John? All the higher life form productivity of the earth is by some form of sexual union. God, when His work was completed, called His creation 'very good.' Is the relationship of men and women somehow sinful, while those of all God's other creatures sanctified or is all sexual congress a part of original sin?"

These questions could go on and on but the final result would always be the same. The orthodox case for original sin would be thrown out of court for lack of supporting evidence.

But if sexual congress with Eve was not the original sin we inherited from father Adam, what was it? The original sin was not the sex act itself but, rather, it was the perversion of this act. It was the attempt by Adam and Eve (or rather by the first humans who inhabited this earth and who are represented Biblically by Adam and Eve) to enjoy the pleasures inherent in the stimulation of the Sexual Creative Center without accepting the responsibility for the natural consequences of their actions. This legacy, from our far distant ancestors, has carried down throughout history to our own day. Man, by using the creative mind given him so willingly by his Creator, has, over the centuries, invented every possible procedure and method to allow him to experience all the pleasures of sex while at the same time avoiding the normal God-ordained results of the malefemale congress.

Man foolishly believes that he can circumvent the natural laws of his being by such acts of perverted sexual expression, but, by his actions, he has, instead, brought into the world every known form of misery, sorrow, pain, disease and degeneration. As Saint Paul declared, "God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Starting with Adam, man (and woman) have attempted to mock God by sowing the wind; they have (then and now) reaped the whirlwind.

Am I being too extreme in attributing too much to the adverse effects of sexual perversion?* Actually there are no words in our language strong enough to state the real facts. Remember what we are told about being made in the Creator's image. If we are so created-and who is to prove otherwise- must we not have, to some degree, His power of creation, since such creation is the essential image of God? If we have such creative force and power, where would it reside? Taking into account Nature's frugality, would she not concentrate this force and power in the previously created Sexual Creative Center?

*One could well ask, "If it is correct that sexual perversion is the underlying cause of most human ills, are not the religious prelates wise then in suggesting sexual abstinence as the way to all that is good and godly?" This view might have some validity were it not for God's first command to man, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth." Abstinence sets at naught this first command. The Law of Sexuality as given to man through every true prophet and Messiah is, "Proper use of the sexual function, not abuse (perversion) or nonuse is the Law of God."

This, in truth, is so! The center of our godly powers is in our Biblical "loins." For this reason the phrase "gird your loins" is used throughout the Bible to indicate a time to summon and bring forth your godly powers for good.

It was because of the vital nature of the sexual function to men and women in fulfilling their destiny and place in God's universal plan that the "sin" of Adam and Eve brought about such a severe repercussion, one that persists to this day. By their act Adam and Eve placed in jeopardy the most godly part of their being. They began a destruction process that, if not reversed by their own efforts, would lead to their complete annihilation. The Biblical phrase, "the soul that sinneth, it shall die," is not to be ignored or taken only as a poetic phrase. It means exactly what it says. The sins of the soul are mainly those of sexual perversion. Why? Because the human soul is fed by and lives upon the fires of creativity that reside in the Sexual Creative Center. While these fires are augmented and reinforced by normal sexual expression (as later described herein) they are diminished and can finally be extinguished by continued perversion of the sexual potential. *godly?" This view might have some validity were it not for God's first command to man, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth." Abstinence sets at naught this first command. The Law of Sexuality as given to man through every true prophet and Messiah is, "Proper use of the sexual function, not abuse (perversion) or nonuse is the Law of God."

Are we saying then that man may lose his soul by continued sexual perversity? Yes! To allow you to think anything else would do you and all humanity a disservice. Obviously, if we believe the Bible, we must realize that if the sinning soul can die, then there must be a sin of the soul. Where in the various church teachings is that sin? We need look no further than the sin of the first chapter of Genesis. The great Biblical writers did not want man to go unwarned. He was given clues to the nature of the sins of the soul early in the Biblical writings.

The sins of the soul are mainly those of disabling and assaulting the Sexual Creative Center by sexual perversities that gradually erode and finally destroy the substance in this center that is the essential "food" for the human soul's development.*

*Actually the soul, or rather the Divine Spark or embryonic soul, being a part of God, cannot be destroyed as such. What happens is that the individual character, built into this soul by the one in whom it lodged, is lost. The soul returns to the Godhead as nascent material awaiting its time to be placed in a new body and personality. To our computer literate readers, think of the soul as a hard disk that the original owner corrupts and finally wipes clean by his mismanagement. The disk may then be used by a new owner once it is reformatted and readied for new data.

This is pretty "deep stuff," but experience has taught me to believe it to be the truth and are we not taught that only the truth shall set you free? The above accepted, it becomes easy to see why the public has not been particularly interested in the full truth about its own sexuality. There is no more prevalent form of destructive human attitude in our world than that which relates to the desire for perverted human sexuality. This desire is so pervasive that there are few voices to counter its siren call. Later in this work we will discuss each of the various individual subjects related to such destructive activities, but here we want to give you here a preview of that which is to come.

Benjamin Franklin said, "If you would persuade, speak not of reason but of interest." All my professional life I have attempted to follow this admonition. Despite what you may surmise from the foregoing, this is not a work that attempts to discourage constructive sexual expression. I am not here to recommend that you diminish your sexual activity. On the contrary, I plan to describe the way by which all that is good and positive in sexuality and life itself can be yours. Within this work you will be taught the proper use of the sexual forces and will be shown how, by the extension of these forces into wider fields, you can bring about health, wealth and unending happiness in your life and in the lives of those you love. This is the true legacy of God's gift to Adam and Eve (symbolic); just because they "blew it" does not mean that you have to do so, too.

The Pleasure Camp

As we leave the religious-based camp of sexual thought, we enter an entirely new world. Here the Bible has little or no credibility and so we must frame our discussion and argument in more prosaic form. This second camp consists of those individuals who want to use sex mainly for the physical pleasure sensations that the sensitive sexual apparatus can generate-the seeming objective being to derive the most pleasure possible, irrespective of the consequences, with the least possible responsibility.

The siren call of this camp seems to be, "If it feels good, do it and don't think about any later consequences." This was the voice of the serpent to Eve in the Garden of Eden. It is still the voice of many modern and some very seemingly sweet and motherly sexual serpents today. However, no matter how sweet the voice of the serpent may be, its bite is as deadly as ever.

While the first sexual camp brought (and brings) us the immaculate conception, original sin and human sexual copulation as a "sinful but necessary" mentality, this "pleasure- only" camp brings us a mentality that extols the Marcus de Sade, Free Love, the Sexual Revolution and every known (and probably some that are unknown) form of sexual perversion and degeneration. It is not difficult to see why mankind has been unable to embrace either of these two extremes for very long. Either choice is antithetic to all that man's own mind and heart tell him is right and good. Hoping that somehow, someday, someone will get it right, he keeps alternating these two camps in social prominence.

The great harm to mankind comes from attempting to limit sexuality to either of these two known sexual manifestations (sex only for reproduction or sex only for pleasure) or of expanding either to comprise the whole of human sexuality. The human Sexual Creative Center is a very complicated, intricate, delicate structure with many creative uses and is only by the most complete utilization of all these potentials can man overcome the sexual chaos which has reigned supreme since the beginning of recorded history.

When we limit sex to the creating and bearing of children, we bury 90 percent of its latent value, which can only be extracted by a full understanding of this marvelous force. Even so-called "enlightened" churches, which recognize sex between loving mates as constructive, still find great difficulty in accepting the fact that the act is a holy function and not one to be hidden in darkness or smirked about at dinner parties.

On the other hand, those who advocate and practice a completely uninhibited sex activity are usually as ignorant of the true nature of the human Sexual Creative Center as their more conservative contemporaries. While those in this pleasure-only camp often declare a nonbelief in God or gods, they often make a god of sex, and sex apparently makes a poor god, because, when analyzed, invariably these sexual libertarians understand little more about the real purpose and place of sex in life than do those individuals in the religious camp.

Such pleasure-seeking sexists are like young children who, when given a mechanical toy, complex beyond their understanding, toss it around and use it only as a plaything befitting their previous knowledge, entirely oblivious to the true purpose of the mechanism. I am reminded of the incidents in history when, following a revolution, ignorant peasant looters would invade the homes of aristocrats and entertain themselves by tearing to pieces priceless tapestries, slashing and destroying sensitively painted masterpieces and breaking up meticulously wrought furniture to use for firewood. One cannot deny the fact that these ruffians enjoyed themselves and had a good time, but think of what they missed! Look at what they did with the handiwork of true genius! Think what supreme creative efforts they destroyed in a moment of drunken revelry! This, I declare, is exactly what purveyors of modern day sexual license are doing. They may enjoy themselves for a short time, but they are attempting to run rough-shod over a sensitive, intricate, near omnipotent apparatus, which, if properly understood and used, could make of them creatures near to God in their glory. As it is, they seem to be little more than sexual peasant barbarians.

Interestingly, while the various cultures historically vacillate from one extreme to the other, the mass of mankind does not usually move as far either to the right or to the left as the culture dictates. In the far left swing of the pendulum, such as the present era, most of the population remain to the right of the swing. The same is true even in the far swings to the right of this sexual pendulum. The reason for this reluctance to go overboard to one side or the other is not difficult to understand when one considers the reasoning power of the common man. He may not know all that the elite of either side think they know, but he does know nonsense and rubbish when he hears it. This is why the jury system in our nation has been so successful. The common people have an uncanny sense of sifting through endless rhetoric and concentrating on the essentials.

They know that there is some validity in both of these camps' contentions but that both camps fall off the deep end of credibility once they leave these relatively safe and universally accepted positions. The common people realize that children are an obviously constructive use of sex and without sexual intercourse children are not generally possible.* They also realize that if we all lived the pure celibate ascetic religious life, our world would, like the Shakers, die out rather quickly.

The common folk also realize that pleasure has every right to be a part of the creative sexual union. If this were not intended, God would not have made us man and woman or designed our sexual organs as He did. The moral individual accepts this pleasure as the reward for accepting the responsibilities of marriage and parenthood. He is honest enough with himself to know that if he tries to obtain these pleasures, without accepting the resultant responsibilities, he will later reap the consequences of his folly. There is much goodness in the average man and woman. They only need guidance and instruction. Therefore, it is to the common men and women of America and the world (Lincoln's favorites) that this book is written and dedicated. Those extremists on the left and the right will not read it and, even if they did, would they deign to put its teachings into practice? Only by such practice is it possible to reap the rewards promised within.

*Excepting, of course, the use of various modern medical implantation methods. These will be discussed in later chapters.
